This morning we drove over to Dunvegan to see the castle, which houses some lovely paintings. I don't know what it is about castles surrounded by water, the tide senses us coming and goes out!
Then we drove back into Portree to take the road which circles the northern part of the island. This is mostly a single track road with passing places... a bit hairy in parts but thankfully everyone else is driving it to see the sights and take photographs so it is all very slow and stress free. We saw The Old Man of Storr which is the rock pictured above.
And on the recommendation of Morag, who runs our b&b, we called for lunch at a beautiful tea shop called The Small & Cosy Tea Shop where there are a vast array of teas on offer, along with delicious soup and amazing home baked cakes. One of the things I am enjoying about this place is that everybody seems to be touring and comes from a different country and everybody chats to one another and is happy to share tables when space is tight. We shared a table with a Swiss couple here.
From here we went to the small island life museum. Not that brilliant, but also not that expensive.
Then, quite by chance, I walked into a shop to buy some milk for a cup of tea or two later and overheard a family talking about visiting the fairy glen, where some of Stardust was filmed. So we followed the directions and were able to tick off another place on Annabel's list.
Once there we had to go to the very top...which was a tight squeeze and made me very glad I had gone for the soup and not the cake at the Small and Cosy Tea Shop! It was here that we met our first midges of the whole trip.
So we leave Skye tomorrow for Fort William. I am loving it all but am rather tired today and very much missing Peter.
