We have some seriously dodgy genes in our family! My Dad was one of 11 children and I think I am right in saying that every single one of them has/had heart problems. Furthermore, about half of them are diabetic too. Yesterday I took my Mum to Blackpool to visit Dad's younger brother, my Uncle Brian, who had a heart bypass on Monday. It was a rather epic journey, but well worth it.
Uncle Brian is very sweet. When my Dad died, he used to ring me every day, just to make sure I was okay and he still often rings Mum and me to check up on us. He is really going through the mill at the moment; once he recovers from this surgery, he has to undergo surgery for lung cancer, probably in a few weeks time. They are hoping to remove one lung if he can cope without it, the difficuly being that he has emphysema.
Anyway, in true Grant form, he was in the ITU but still joking with the nurses and complaining about the hospital food. It was lovely to see him and see that he was okay. Into the bargain, we also got to see my Dad's eldest sister and her daughter, my cousin Carol. Dad's eldest sister, my Aunt Edie, is 86, very smart and very active. My cousin Carol is lovely and was entertaining me with stories about the family.
So please keep Uncle Brian in your prayers, he's such a sweetie and has such a lot to go though.
