A trip to see the follies

After HBC today Anni and I tootled off to Hawkstone Park and Follies with her friend Sophie and Sophie's mum Jane. If you've never been here and don't have a pushchair, wheelchair or an aversion to very long and often uphill walks, then it's a must. The place is just what it says on the tin, a park with lots of follies (and superb photo opportunities). One of my favourites is the monument. You climb a total of 150 steps to get to the top and a breathtaking view of 9 counties. Here are Sophie and Anni at the top. (Yes, Jane and I did it too but we did it in shifts to save carrying up our bags.)
Then there's the Swiss Bridge.

After much walking you reach a place poetically named the Awful Precipice and get more views over the Shropshire plains.

Right beside the Awful Precipice is the Raven's Shelf and more breathtaking views. (Not me, the countryside behind me!)

To get here you must go through a labrynth of caves.

We were amazed that the rain held off for our picnic, then started up again whilst we were under the shelter of the trees before staying away for the rest of the afternoon and giving us a lovely dry walk. The whole thing, including picnic and photo stops, took us about four hours. A grand day out! I'm looking forward to a nice, hot bubbly bath and an early night now though, to recharge my batteries for the final day of HBC tomorrow.

Loved it there Lol, although it was bad for my fear of heights. I wasn`t sure i would get down again. It`s where they filmed the BBC Narnia series and you can see why. Great pics :)
