My first day of the summer hols (the best bit of my job) and I'm up just after 7.00am. Ah well, carpe diem as they say! By 10.15 I had finished reading my book for book club and was on the road to Ann's, equipped with a picnic and an unimpressed teenage daughter. (Unimpressed at the early start, that is). Our ultimate destination was
Kedleston Hall, where quite a lot of
The Duchess was filmed. We joined up with our friend Liz, and her daughter Danielle for a truly girlie day out.

Of course it rained, but we were not to be thwarted and carried on picnicking regardless.

The house inside is beautiful and my little nieces enjoyed going round with their clipboards, doing a quiz. In the bedroom, we commented on how short the bed was. The guide assured us that it was not actually that short. Hannah put him right,
"Oh but my Daddy is this big!" she said, stretching her arms as high as she could, "He's bigger than you."
"Yes," chipped in Ella, "My Daddy's 34." Then she added, "He will die soon."
Great! Not much hope for her 'elderly' aunty at 44 then!
It always niggles me that you can never take any photographs inside these places but I made up for it outside. Ella and Hannah found a tree to hide inside and we got to be regal on the balcony that Georgiana runs up from the garden.
Then the girls got to run around like crazy things from the planet Crazy in the gardens.
We had a most lovely day indeed. How could we fail to with this little bundle of mischief?
