Round and about in "Mainhattan"

On Saturday Sue took me for a tour of Frankfurt, aka "Mainhattan" because of its skyscrapers and its position on the river Main. We started at the university where Sue studies part time. It is a gorgeous campus; imagine looking out on this as you study! (Not me, the rest of it.) It was another beautiful, sunny day and as we climbed to the top of a tower, we had a crystal clear view over the city. I love Frankfurt for its juxtaposition of buildings ancient and modern.

We had lunch in the shadows of the alte Oper, where our friend Glen has played concerts with his orchestra. There was a festival going on, as well as the iron man event, so the town was packed with people and stalls. I think the strangest sight I saw was a "beer bike", about 10 men, drinking beer whilst sitting around a wooden bar which was also a bicycle and cycling! We had a great time seeing the sights and I definitely think we walked off the fried noodles we had for lunch.
