My shiny new bike

I woke up today and I was 43! I wasn't too happy about that. However, I was VERY happy to receive my surprise birthday prezzie from my lovely husband ~ my shiny new bike. It's actually more purple than blue but looks blue in this photograph. I can't wait to go out for a bike ride. I haven't had a bike for a couple of decades and it's about the only form of physical activity I do enjoy. I'm just too excited.
The downside was then having to work all day. That was made even worse when the dreaded phone call came to say that those who shall not be named, who come and breathe fear into us all as they inspect every nook and cranny of our educational establishment, were coming on Wednesday and Thursday next week. We've been waiting for this for 18 months now and went straight into preparation mode with a meeting after school. However, when it was pointed out to aforementioned beastly creatures, that 4 year groups and several colleagues wouldn't be in because of the national strike on Thursday, they went back to the drawing board and came back with the decision to cancel. Will they be coming the following week? They really couldn't say.
Then I came home to some more luvverly prezzies and cards, loads of touching cyber greetings and a not so luvverly letter from the screaming banshee's insurers.
Well now I'm off to a retirement party with some people I've worked with for years and years, celebrating a retirement, the non arrival of the beastly ones and my 43rd birthday with my lovely Peter, who bought me a lovely bike.
