If I were Prime Minister, I would make it illegal to hold any business meeting that lasted longer than an hour. It is my considered opinion that most things can be dealt with in 45 minutes, if the meeting is run efficiently. Today I sat in a meeting at an educational establishment. As the meeting entered its third hour, I began to wonder if it is actually humanly possible to die of boredom. Do you ever sit in meetings and look around the room and wonder what is going on in everyone else's head? Some people are transparent, by the doodles on their agenda or their constant glancing at their watch. But what about the ones who get all anecdotal, which serves to extend the meeting even longer? Do these people actually enjoy meetings? I just get so frustrated because I genuinely believe that when they are efficiently run, meetings can be so much more productive and so much less of an ordeal. Too many people just like the sound of their own voice too much. There, I've stopped ranting now.
