As one of my favourite Calvin & Hobbes cartoons illustrates a change of scene every now and then is so good to have.Today I took some of my pupils on a language awareness day to a local German car firm and had the added bonus of working with my lovely son, who was also there with his school. Good to see the lad at work!
Having had the opportunity to chat with some real live Germans, the kids (from 4 different schools) had to produce a poster and a tv advert all about the local area, in German and perform and present in front of everyone, including the "dragons" in the den. One of these was my friend and language assistant of 7 years, Dagmar.
I really enjoyed the day and was really proud of what the kids achieved. On the way home, I picked up my Mum, to bring her round for dinner.
"How come Tom's with you?" she asked.
"We've been to Bentley."
"Oh," she said, "Did he just have a check up?"
It took me a while to get the link before I was able to explain,
"No, we've been to Bentley not the dentist's"
"Oh, I see," she said.
I thought I'd cracked it, until she asked,
"And did Tom go as well?"
Bless my Mum.

Do you think it`s hereditary?
Love Calvin and Hobbes - especially the snowmen.
What? The ability to speak German or the tendency to be doo lally? The doo lally business is definitely hereditary. My mum's brother lived in his underpants and thought the local supermarket manager was trying to kill him... with a shopping trolley!
