The Emerald Isle: Days One and Two~ Belfast

Yesterday, Annabel and I returned home after 11 days of touring the Emerald Isle. We have travelled well over a thousand miles, had some great experiences and have fallen a little bit in love with Ireland. Our first experience was to drive up to Scotland to get the Cairnryan ferry to Belfast. The ferry journey was very long because I had stupidly left my Kindle in the car.
We found our hotel easily enough and parking was easier than I had anticipated. Our hotel was perfectly situated, you literally walk around the corner and you are in the town centre. So we went for dinner in Chiqitos. (I know! We go all the way to Belfast and eat in a chain restaurant). Our hotel looked lovely, but the beds were as hard as stone and we didn't sleep well at all.
On day two, our first stop was the Titanic Experience, which was amazing. We learned everything from the economic background of Belfast, through the building of the ship, to the launch, the disaster and the aftermath. They made great use of technology to bring it all to life, such as projecting film of the servants  on the all behind the beds as if they were sitting on the beds in the cabins and having a conversation. There was also a ride that took us through the shipyard. It was brilliantly done and great value for money.
After that, we met up with an old friend, Eunice, for lunch and I can't believe I was so busy catching up with her, I forgot to take any photographs. Then we spent the afternoon looking round the shops, wondering where all the people were. Apparently, the population of Northern Ireland is pretty small. This meant no queuing anywhere and having the pick of sofas in Starbucks. We liked that!
Verdict? We liked Belfast very much. We liked the quirkiness of our hotel. We did not like the beds.
