The Emerald Isle: Day Three~ The Antrim Coast to Malin Head

On Tuesday, we left Belfast to drive out to Bangor to meet up with a dear old friend and colleague, Janet. Again I was so busy catching up that my camera stayed in my bag. We had a lovely lunch at Janet's local golf club, caught up and put the world to rights. It was wonderful to see her. As with most people we encountered on our trip, she thought we were crazy to travel the distances we were travelling and trying to fit in so much into one day. Our challenge today was to take in the Carrick-a-rede rope bridge and Giant's Causeway before heading to Ireland's most northerly point;, all in time for the last ferry from Magilligan to Greencastle, which left at 8.15pm.

We both crossed the rope bridge and found time for the ever necessary cup of tea before carrying on to the breathtakingly beautiful Giant's Causeway. By this time it was raining quite a bit and we were glad to have brought the HIMYM brolly.
I don't mind walking in the rain (just driving in it) and it was definitely worth it for this view.
We were well and truly drenched and bedraggled by the time we hopped on the bus back up to the visitor centre.
As it was, we managed it all in time for the 7.15pm ferry, including the time spent doing a circular detour in search of the elusive Magilligan, thanks to my, what was proving to be, very UNtrustworthy satnav. The ferry crossing was very short and sweet.
The sun was casting a beautiful light on the sea as we headed as far north as you can go in Ireland.
We arrived at Malin Head View B&B just before 8.30pm and were warmly greeted by the lovely owners. Donald and Elma and a tray of tea and biscuits. We skipped the biscuits and opted instead to catch the Seaview Tavern before they stopped serving food. When I ordered fish and chips, I had not been expecting WHALE! (Not literally of course, just the size of one).
We were back at the B&B to watch the sun setting from the lovely garden. Once again, the view was worth the journey. Furthermore, the beds were beyond comfortable and very welcome that was.
