The Emerald Isle: Day Five & Six ~ Donegal to Galway

Today we met up with my sil and bil Ally and Dave and nephews Ollie, Max, Charlie and Harry, who live and work in Qatar but were over visiting Dave's parents. It was an on and off rainy day but just about clear enough, after a fabulous fry up made by Dave, to go on a little boat trip to the monastery at Devenish. They hadn't been home for Christmas and so until recently we hadn't seen them for a year, so this was a real treat.
Ally is Peter's youngest sister. I hadn't noticed before this photo, how similar to Anni she looks. Little Harry is their maker of mischief, who reminds his Grandma of Peter when he was little (ie also a maker of mischief and sooo very cute.)
We had a lovely time.
In spite of the rain.
Then it was back for one more night in the vintage caravan. It was a very windy night, but thankfully the caravan felt pretty secure.
From here it was another 130 miles or so to Clifden, Connemara. It wouldn't have been a bad journey if it hadn't been for the Galway races, which meant that Galway town was heaving and there was a huge traffic jam when we were trying to get out. All of this was worth it to get to the beautiful Dolphin Beach House. This was our lovely room...
..and this was the view from our bedroom window.
The B&B was at the end of a long and winding cliff edge path, which I really would not like to have to negotiate in bad weather. Clodagh, the lovely owner, recommended a great place to eat in town, where we got fabulous food and great live music. We loved it.
We loved Dolphin Beach House full stop. It was full of lovely little touches, even the entrance hall was pretty.
We slept like logs after all our travels.
