Beginning as I mean to go on

Having been mortified by the Wii fit's condemnation of my physical fitness and weight, I decided to begin 2009 with a steely determination to get fitter and slimmer. So when Maggie asked if I would be joining them on WHBC's annual new year's day walk (probably fully expecting the answer to be no) I said I would. Having had very little sleep and finally finding some decent slumber after 9am this morning, when I went back to bed after my previous blog, it was tempting to ignore the 11am alarm and go back to sleep. But I am so glad that I didn't. Armed with my new best friend "Sat Nav" I set out with Julie to find Rudyard Lake.
We walked the circumference of this beautiful lake. It was bracing, breathtaking and body friendly. After my 5 mile walk I have no aches and pains to report (as yet). I even managed to walk most of the way up at the front with these good people. (NB. that's Jon Mackenzie, not Jean Paul Sartre, contrary to appearances.)

I thoroughly enjoyed it. I do actually love walking, but Peter doesn't (largely because it hurts his back) and neither do Tom and Anni (largely because they are lazy). I am definitely going to do more of it next year. It's especially good fun in good company.
Thanks to Ross for organizing it, yet again.

But where were the rest of you?

I remember those walks - good fun.
If you want to walk more, then get a gps and take up geocaching - it will get you waling all over the place. There's at least one by the lake there. I've walked around Rudyard at least once on a caching spres.
