Ione took back the reigns of book club last night, which is lovely because it never feels the same unless we meet at her house. Sometimes, with all the best will in the world, some people just don't manage to finish the book of the month in time for book club. This time it was almost all of us and those who had read it all had read it a long while ago. So it was decided just to meet and have a meal together. There were only six of us last night, which made for a nice intimate dinner and chat. I think I can say that it was officially the longest book club we have had. We had no leader and no book to discuss, well not really, but we talked about lots of books and lots of other things too. Things such as my liking for dark books and art and strange music (something that even I don't understand.) For the occasion Ione made Gordon's lasagne, Bev made Delia's chocolate roulade and I made Gary's baked American cheesecake.
Contrary to the impression this photo may be giving, Jane didn't eat all of Bev's roulade herself. It was a lovely evening and a much needed chillout time in the current chaos that seems to be prevalent at the moment for many of us. The company was sparkling and the food was fab. Ione may have been critical of her own lasagne, but I liked it and 3 of us had seconds! Tom was jealous that I was having dinner there because Ione is a "bakeress" apparently.
