All at sea

Our friends Ruthie and Lily came to spend a couple of nights with us, as they live just a couple of hours south of where we were. We had a day out to Bamburgh with them, where I took this photograph of Anni and Lily on the beach, which I love. Anni bought a woolly hat while we were there, she likes it so much that I think it may need to be surgically removed. She even wore it to the cinema, throughout the film! Bamburgh was a really sweet little place. We had lunch in these tea rooms, wearing a million layers of clothing.

We took a boat trip to the Farne Islands, which was amazing. The sea was so rough that it was actually pretty scary. I was too busy trying not to throw up to be all that scared though and believe me, I am never seasick. But the bumpy ride was well worth it to get this close to the seals.

There was a camera crew on one of the islands, filming the seals for Autumnwatch.

So yes, it was lovely apart from Tom breaking a window pane in the house (it was paper thin!) But when the living room ceiling leaked and we were up and down in the night emptying bowls and mopping, we decided to come home early. The soft bed and the driving had done Peter's back no good. Next time we go away, it has to be somewhere where he can get on a plane and then not drive at all once we get there. I did love what we got to see and am glad we went though.

Hope one day you get a chance to go back in better accomodation and in beautiful beach weather, and when the sea birds are covering the Farnes in their thousands - around May time. The puffins are my absolute favourite. Shame you had to come home early. I hope they give you a refund.
