Bye bye Barbie, Barbie bye bye

Ever since I can remember Annabel has been Barbie mad. In this photograph (taken at our friends Deborah and Mark's wedding) she was 17 months old and even then she had Barbie and "Duck Duck" with her wherever she went. She takes after me for that. I played with Barbies for hours. My favourite Barbie was named after my Sunday School teacher and was married to Mod Hair Ken (with stick-on beards and moustaches) who was named after my favourite singer in the Faraway Folk group.
Every Christmas her main present was Barbie something or other. In 2002 it was Rapunzel Barbie complete with her turret and her prince. Today was the end of an era. Barbie was doing nothing but gather dust under Anni's sofa and take up space in her wardrobe. Frankly, it was time for her to go. My sister-in-law Helen had already said not to send her their way and so I decided to sort her out for various destinations.
I sorted 5 boxes for the attic for the grandchildren. (I always wished I'd kept my special dolls and stuff for Anni such as my Charlie's Angels dolls), 3 bags for the charity shop and 3 for the tip. Now you can actually see the space! There's room in her wardrobe for shoes, room in the underbed drawers for dvds and clear space under the sofa.
It took me the best part of 3 days but it was worth it. If I can't go on holiday I may as well clean and tidy, that's my maxim.
Now her room better reflects who she is now. We're over to visit our friend Ruthie up in Barnard Castle for an overnight stay tomorrow, for some girl time and tidying recovery.

Hope you have a fab time. Must be a relief not to have to take Barbie and Duck with you this time.
