A breath of fresh air

Anni and I have just been on a mini break to stay with our friends Ruthie & Lily, who live in a beautiful part of the country called Greta Bridge. Ruthie reminded us before we left that we were coming up north where it was properly cold and we needed wellies and souwesters. My darling daughter and I aren't really kitted out for the great outdoors although she does have some festival wellies and I, buy some strange fluke, have some walking boots which were kindly given to me by one of Peter's friends who clearly doesn't know me. Good job I had them too. Ruthie took us to Low Force waterfall first of all. In the background you can see where Robin fought with Little John in Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves.
Here I am embracing the outdoors in my walking boots. I actually loved it and should do it far more often.
Annabel was quite taken with the "dandelion and burdock waterfall" as she called it. (It's this brown colour because of the peat.)

Ruthie is one of those friends you can be totally crazy with. I was impressed by these random wooden sheep sculptures.
We then went on to High Force, which is apparently the highest waterfall in Great Britain. The water was exceptionally high that day and Ruthie tells me you don't always get a double waterfall here. It was awesome. I watched it for ages and just marvelled in the majesty of God.

Annabel had been away on camp last week and it was lovely to spend some girlie time together. She's gone from being my little Barbie mad girl to my lovely friend and companion. Most of the time we like the same things but she didn't want me to inflict my music on her during our 2½ hour journey and so she made a CD from her itunes of songs we both like. No seventies music included!
