Artistry, Antics & Ambience

I am always amused by the antics of Aaron and Ben, twins of Ione the Book Club Queen. Reading what they had been up to today reminded me of Annabel's antics when we had Lis and Ruth to stay once. Annabel (then 2) was very quiet upstairs (always a bad sign) and when I went to investigate, I found that she had been playing with Lis's make-up. I never did get the lovely colours out of that sheet! But how can you be cross with a cute face like that? It also reminded me of when my cousin Natalie was little. Her mum investigated to find her bedroom completely covered in talcum powder. Natalie's excuse was, "I wanted it to snow, Mummy."

Hunting out this photograph led me to my 1997 album where I found this lovely photo of Tom and Annabel playing tea parties in perfect harmony. Those were the days! They don't do a great deal in perfect harmony at the moment. Tom finished school for the summer hols on Friday but Anni and I still have one more day to go and it can't end soon enough. Everyone is tired and nerves are raw. Today I discovered that my lunch had vanished from the staff room fridge. Being the natural detective that I am, I followed an information trail which led me to discover that someone had turned the fridge off and subsequently the site manager had decreed that the fridge must be emptied as it had reached an "ambient temperature". Aforementioned lunch had been thrown in the bin. How so very rude! When I complained, I was told that it had to be done because of the risk of salmonella. It was a frozen ready meal in a cardboard box! How please? And is one not considered responsible enough to make one's own decisions on whether one's lunch is safe to eat? For some strange reason, everything else in the dangerously "ambient" fridge was left untouched. Somehow things like this don't make me laugh at this time of year. The world, I declare, has gone mad!
