Snowed in

Our little village lies under a beautiful blanket of snow today and the Pool is frozen over. This morning, Tom and I dragged ourselves out of our toasty, cosy beds for our second day "back at the Gulag" as Tom called it, and Anni for her first day back. Then came the news that every child dreams of ~ their schools were closed and they had a snow day. It wasn't just the snow; a water main had burst and their schools (and our house) had no water. No water, no heating, no heating, no school. Yippee!

I, however, seem to work in one of the only schools in Cheshire for whom it was business as usual. Typical! I had to drive through all this at 15mph behind "Cautious Drivers Of The World United" while Tom went sledging and Anni hibernated for the day. Peter rang me on his way in to say that he was at a standstill on the toll road whilst the air ambulance landed on the other side of the motorway.
I'm hopeful for tomorrow; the snow is supposed to be getting worse and the office staff have been sending out practice group texts. Oh I'd so love a snow day. Do you remember school closures during the oil crisis in the 1970s? I used to love those unexpected gifts of school free days. And it would mean I could get all those mock exams marked....
