Is it me or does Christmas creep forward a bit each year? I was buying a couple of bits in M&S today and spied mince pies and these Christmas gingerbreads. I bought them because Tom and Anni love gingerbread and Tom had come home from school early today, ill with man flu. But pul-eaaaaaaaaaaaaase? Christmas biscuits in September? I don't want to fast forward to Christmas while I'm still drinking in the beautiful autumn hues. That's when I have time to drink them in, from beneath my piles of marking and planning.
Another thing creeping up on me is old age. I haven't been blogging much lately because I'm feeeling the strain of going from 0-60 in sixty seconds so to speak as the languor of the summer holidays was suddenly exchanged for the hectic pace of work at full throttle. I seem to be spending an inordinate amount of time cutting up and laminating things to make activities which are over in a couple of minutes, because we are now under pressure to be circus entertainers as well as enducators but the least said about that the better.
I'm beginning to see myself being quite comfortable amongst the ranks in Grumpy Old Women and having plenty to rant about to boot. Furthermore, my tiredness isn't helped by the fact that Peter's snoring has become infinitely worse lately, stealing my sleep. What I need is a holiday. Some sunshine and seaside. But we've just been told that although Peter has 14 days holiday to take before the year's end, he can't take half term week, which just so happens to be the only week when we could take a holiday.
Hey ho! We are going to sit down in January and book somewhere lovely for next year. Meanwhile, I'm fighting back the onset of Christmas...
