A 70th

I feel as if I'm blogging nothing but birthdays lately but I suppose in a family as big as ours, birthdays crop up pretty often. Well today is Peter's Aunt Davina's 70th birthday and so yesterday, we all got together for a family barbecue to celebrate the occasion. Judith had organised everything with military precision, which was most impressive. There had to be two birthday cakes, to feed all the troops with some amazing firework candles, which Peter took great delight in lighting, being the pyromaniac that he is.
Aunt Davina's son Max came up for the occasion with his two boys, so it was quite a gathering. In spite of the forecasts, the weather held out for us too, for which we were very thankful, having 18 children around.
I think the last time Peter was together with all 8 of his siblings was Tim and Marianne's wedding 4 years ago but on this occasion we had all five sisters (in age order above: Gill, Helen, Ann, Judith & Alison) and seven of them in total. So there had to be photos.
We had a lovely afternoon chilling in the garden. Our Russian Ivy is thriving again after suffering when the wind demolished the pergola the other year.
And I got to catch up with my s-i-l Dee, who has been back in South Africa for a few weeks. Then today we have been over at Ann and Jon's church where YFriday were leading the worship(loving their new album). It was really uplifting, and much needed after the hideous week I'd had. We had a roast dinner in the church after the service too.
Peter went on to London from there. Yes, he's back at work!!!! A bit too soon I think but he had an important meeting and decided to give it a go. Pretty amazing after 6 weeks!
