Scrambled but ethical

I was just reading Ione's blog entry about ethical living and it reminding me that I intended to blog about the fact that I feel like a criminal now if I need a (sshhhhhh!) plastic bag for my shopping. Imagine those words uttered in the style of Les Dawson and Roy Barraclough when using unmentionable words. I have vivid memories, from when I was a little girl, of my mother and her older sister, my Aunty Ev having long conversations on the bus, interspersed with "unmentionable" words which were mouthed, not spoken, in an exaggerated fashion. The aforementioned unmentionables were words like "she's expecting", "cancer" and "died".
Anyhooo, back to the plastic bags.... am I the only one who feels as if I am breaking the law. Funnily enough, I feel worse depending on which shop I am in. Waitrose is a big no-no for plastic bags. So I have invested in some "bags for life." Who else forgets them every time they go shopping. I tend to use mine for stashing away all the bits and pieces that should be upstairs when I'm having an emergency unexpected visitors tidy-up. However, the my last trip to the supermarket gave me the feeling of standing outside the headmaster's office at primary school when the assistant looked at me long and hard and said, "I suppose you could have one more.." as she grudgingly gave me another environmentally unfriendly plastic bag.
My point is that I proudly remembered my bags for life when I went barbecue shopping on Saturday. It has taken me so long to get there because the stress of the inspection is scrambling my brain. They left me alone today. Roll on 3.30 tomorrow.

Hope it goes ok today. I know what you mean about the bags, and not only that but they are suddenly tiny and thin (dream on Ione)and break on the way home.
