I don't know about you, but I'm loving this wintery weather in the run up to Christmas. On Fridays some of our department go to the local canalside café for lunch. In school you can go a whole day without seeing the outdoors or breathing fresh air, so even as the winter comes we try to sit outside on the decking, making the most of the fresh air, for as long as we can. We have been driven indoors much earlier this year, but we still get our fresh air by walking there. This week it was more a case of tottering in my badly chosen footwear, but it was a lovely walk along the frozen canal. Peter took one look at this photograph and asked, "Did you throw rocks in it?" Of course I didn't throw rocks in it! As I have said before, boys never grow up.
On Saturday, Anni was at the Clothes Show in Birmingham, where she had a fantastic day and came home absolutely full of it. Tom was working and so Peter and I went Christmas shopping in John Lewis and lunching out and generally having a lovely time. On the way home we bought the Christmas tree from the farm shop, for the first time without the kids to help us choose. We did wait for them to decorate it, well for Anni anyway. It was most convenient that she was almost dressed as an elf for the occasion.
I even got Peter to finally dismantle the disused curtain rail over the archway behind the tree, which has been irritating me for nine long years. All in all, a great start tot he season :)
