Having finished a very long, hard half term on Friday, I was glad to leave coursework and paperwork behind and pack my bags for 4 days in Paris. I last visited the city itself in 1991 and Disneyland in 2000. I joined 10 other members of staff and 95 pupils for an overnight coach journey to Dover for a 5.40am sailing. The journey was pretty stress free and I even got some sleep thanks to my neck pillow, ear plugs and eye mask.
On Sunday, we went up to the second level of the Eiffel Tower, which was amazing.
The views were breathtaking. In fact it was pretty blowy, so everything was breathtaking.
We then did something I had never done before, we climbed the 984 steps up to the top of the Arc de Triomphe and this was the view (above).
From there we climbed more steps up to the Sacré Coeur. A good job really, in light of the ridiculous amount of delicious bread involved in our meals there!
From there, we got to explore one of my favourite places, the Place du Tetre, where you can see all the artists at work.
I rather liked this one.
This, to me, is the very essence of Paris.
Monday was spent in Disneyland. For this we were blessed with blue skies and sunshine and a day a little less stressful than usual, as you can imagine, keeping 95 children safe and happy around a capital city. But I have to say, our kids were amazing. (Even though one did annoy Pluto so much that Pluto swore at him! I don't think Pluto is supposed to do that!
Our last activity was another first for me; a boat trip along the Seine. For the first time I saw the bridge where lovers put padlocks and throw the keys into the Seine, to symbolize eternal love. Ah, the city of romance.
I thoroughly enjoyed the boat trip...
...even though it was raining, we were still smiling.
We passed the place where Diana died and saw her eternal flame monument, which I didn't know existed.
All in all, it was a brilliant trip and I am really glad I went. I also came home to Tom home for the summer and the great news that Peter now has a job.
