There is something incredibly calming about woodlands for me. A walk in a forest makes work and rushing around hither and thither seem very far away. So Saturday was just a perfect day. Peter and Jon indulged in a much needed de-stressing game of golf, whilst Ann, Anni and I took the kiddlies to Birches Valley.
It is a huge woodland park, full of interesting sculptures, mostly made of wood.
Some, not like these 3 "Goldilocks" chairs in 3 different sizes. I think Anni had as much fun as her little cousins.
There was even a dark fairy wood...
Hmmm! We did wonder if we qualified....
But we chanced it and we got to see some fairy dwellings, carved into the tree trunks, complete with fairy dust.
There was also a string of fairy messages....
...and even a dress one fairy had left hanging on a tree.
It definitely felt like the good life; beautiful surroundings, wide open spaces for the children to let off steam and lots of photo opportunities.
We loved it.
I loved catching up with my sil and I especially loved the amazing dinner of chicken and chorizo jambalaya my bil cooked for us in the evening. An evening of great company, great food and Gary Barlow. What more could a girl ask for?
We didn't notice until Hannah and Ella pointed it out, but Anni was sitting on a giant wooden tube of toothpaste and a toothbrush here.
Then we found the jungle drums...a great way for us to let off steam.
Such fun! (In the words of Miranda's mother)
This is one place I will most definitely be visiting again.
