Where do you take your elderly mother, who likes to get out and about but doesn't like to walk very far at all, on a freezing cold February day? Good question? This time, having had a brief taste of the seaside on Saturday, I thought we'd try Southport. We hit the shops and the the pier. Anni was delighted to find that they sold her favourite mini donuts.
Mum was not that delighted at the length of the pier, but thankfully there was a nice, sheltered bench part way down.
Anni was equally unimpressed at having to play dodge the seagulls! And Tom told me that he had never actively hated a place before, but this was the first. He and I walked to the very end of the pier and he made a beeline for the telescope, saying, "Oh look Mum, a telescope ~ so that you can see the mud that's even further away. I'm quite impressed with Tom for being kind enough to come with us and spend the day at the seaside with his Nana. When we took refuge in the cinema to go and see Valentine's Day, I knew that making him endure a chick flick would be testing his good nature too far, so he went off to watch Wolfman instead. I have to say I was rather disappointed with Valentine's Day. Not only was some of the content completely unsuitable for it's 12A certificate (especially when one is sandwiched between one's elderly mother and ones impressionable teenage daughter), but there were too many plotlines and the links were too tenuous. Besides, anyone who thinks they can cast Patrick Dempsey as a bad guy....!

Shame about the film. I was thinking of seeing that, but thanks for the warning. Your beach day looked fun with Peter, and loved the sculpture. Hope you`re loving your week off xx
