In spite of the rain, we have had a splendid day out at Chatsworth today. I hadn't been there for over 10 years and it came out in conversation the other day that Peter's Aunt Davina had never been there, so we said we would take her.
We arranged to meet up with Derbyshire dwellers Ann and Jon and the girls. One of the best bits about the house is that you are allowed to take photographs inside. A great boon for profilic photographers like Jon and me. It really irritates me when places ban photography. Not only is it allowed there, they even provide dressing up clothes and wigs for you in one room. Here's how Anni would look as a contemporary of the Duchess of Devonshire:
Tom was game for a laugh and posed with his little cousins for a portrait.
I am fascinated by the wonderful trompe-l'œil at Chatsworth. No matter how long you stare at it, you just can't believe it's a painting and not a real violin.
My nieces Ella and Hannah were absolutely delighted to bump into the Easter Bunny (even though he did look quite terrifying to me).
Aunt Davina loved the place and was particularly pleased to discover that she was right about a sculpture she had spotted in Pride & Prejudice and had suspected to be dated later than the period the film was set in.
The rain really didn't matter. We all had a lovely day all round.
Best of all, I came home to a freshly shaven hubby :)
