On Friday evening I had a "surprise" party for Peter's 40th with just a few friends and family members (the ones who could cope with loud music.) I say "surprise" because it is well nigh impossible to surprise Peter with anything. He's like the little kid who hunts out their presents in their hiding places before Christmas (wait a minute, no... that was me...) He takes great delight in working out what's coming. He likes to know the ending of a film at the beginning. Nonetheless, there were one or two things I managed to keep from him.

The important thing was that he had a lovely evening. Furthermore, I enjoyed catching up with some of my sisters-in-law. Alison (2nd from the right) is about to produce our 21st niece or nephew on October 20th. She's an amazing mum, with three boys aged 3 (only just) and under and totally chillaxed about motherhood. Marianne (on the left) is all set to produce niece/nephew number 22 in March, and still looks totally glamorous and slimmer than I could ever hope to be.

It was also great to catch up with my big bruv Rob and his lovely wife Kath, who came up just for the party and went back the next morning. Tom has one of Rob's traits, the ability to be really cheeky to you and still make you laugh. "Bags for life," said Rob as some shopping was unpacked, "Or as we men like to call them,
wives!"

We also had some of the YP dropping in later on and some musical moments around the piano.
And generally just chilled with some lovely friends.
