I think it's about three years since my friend Ione started our book club. I absolutely love book club and thought it deserved a place on my blog. We meet once a month and the books we read alternate between secular and Christian. Having a deadline and a purpose to read a book has really made me read more and read some books that I would probably not have thought of reading but then am really glad I did.
This month's book was Jane's choice Lady Jane Grey; The Nine Day Queen of England by Faith Cook. It was a fantastic read, the gripping but tragic story of a young girl who was a pawn in tudor politics and was eventually beheaded at the age of 16. Lady Jane Grey had an amazing faith and spiritual maturity way beyond her years. Before reading it I hadn't known a great deal about Lady Jane Grey, or her links with the reformation at that time. I also had no idea that Edward VI was a Christian. In fact, I had no idea about most of the story. This is a fascinating and challenging book which I would heartily recommend to anyone and we had a cracking good discussion about it.
