And for my next post...

... a rant about the NHS! Having had several tests following his blackout (which the stroke specialist is convinced was caused by his back pain), we had heard nothing from the hospital. The op was on ice until this matter had been resolved. So I rang at the beginning of the week and spole to orthopaedics, pre-op and the ECG people. Nobody seemed to have "anything new" and the test results seemed to have been seen, filed and forgotten about. The orthopaedic practice manager promised to get the surgeon's secretary to look into it. Three days later ... no word... the surgeon's secretary knew nothing about it when I rang again. Again I spoke to all departments concerned, only to be told by the surgeon's secretary that Peter needs to have a follow-up appointment, be signed off by "the medics" (whoever they may be) and then go on a waiting list. Whooooooooooooaaaaaaaaa! haven't we just been on a waiting list since January? I thought the operation was on ice and I was told he'd go back to his original place in the queue. Ah, but they can only do that up until 3rd September. For some magical reason? Does the waiting list self-destruct after a set period of time? Sorry, that is NOT happening.
One of the things I have learned from the 21 years I have spent with Peter is not to accept everything on face value or take anything lying down ~ in short I have learned to be stroppy when I need to be. So I rang "the medics" for an appointment. October is the earliest... Then we have a major problem, I explained. 5 minutes later, we have an appointment for 28th August. (Bless that nice lady).
Honestly, I will stand in that hospital with my heels dug into the ground and stand over them while they write that letter if necessary. I will NOT have Peter in pain for 6 months more because some eejit can't be bothered to chase up paperwork.
Here endeth the strop....
