The Wheelies

A children’s story
The Wheelies are a group of friends who all live happily in the little village of Summerton. (Actually, some of them don’t but they often come to Summerton on Sundays and visit for dinner and sometimes they visit their friends who live a long way off and have tuna pasta bake for lunch).
Well, it’s bedtime in Summerton and everyone is sleeping peacefully, or are they? Let’s look a little closer. Hmmm! No, they’re not really, not all of them. On the outskirts of Summerton, Bet just can’t seem to drop off. So what is Rod doing? He is creeping down the stairs….”Mind you don’t bump your head on the beams, Rod!” Rod comes back with a giant book under his arm. He opens the well read volume and begins in his deep, dulcet tones, “Ah, Gollum…” and before we know it Bet is lost in slumber. Well done Rod!
Now, a little further into the village is a well kept toadstool. Rob and Meg think all their little ones are asleep. Tee hee hee! Naughty Don is on the internet chatting on msn instead and what is happening outside the toadstool? Why, that’s young Dosh practising his line dancing! Side by side with his pal Dosh. Ah, we see, they’ve been watching Barbie as The Princess and The Porpoise again. Let’s hope they don’t wake the neighbours. (Rube and Reb have been doing up their bedroom to help them sleep better and they are hoping they won’t have to take anyone to the hospital tonight!) Sometimes poor old Dosh and Dosh get very bored. I think it is because they both have the same name. But never mind, they bring amusement to the entire village with their antics and make all the old people smile.
One old lady is not smiling just now. It is bedtime and she can’t find her teddy anywhere. Dieter has probably hidden it for a joke again!!!! Will he ever grow up we wonder? Only last month he almost blew his hand off with a firework. Still, there’s never a dull moment in that household. But it’s no fun trying to sleep when your hands are itchy. It’s no fun knowing that when you get to sleep, Dieter will probably wake you up snoring, or leaping around after imaginary intruders. Ah now there’s teddy, we’ll take back all we said, he’d just fallen by the side of the bed. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
But hark! Who’s that still working in the wee small hours? Ah, it’s Donny and he’s just on his way home now, but that’s okay. Judy is already fast asleep. Hey! What are you doing Donny? It’s the dead of winter but Donny is opening all the windows! Poor Judy! But that’s okay, she’s still asleep. Now what is Donny doing? He’s playing a strange noise from the radio, it sounds like birdsong. How can anybody sleep through that? Aw! Their tiny son Esau can, he’s fast asleep on the floor. Esau likes variety of sleeping place.
Well, that’s all for now from Summerton. Goodnight everyone. See you all again very soon…
