On Saturday we travelled down to London to celebrate my sil Kath's 50th birthday. We got the painfully slow but delightfully priced train down and arrived around lunchtime, checked into our hotel and went shopping, before coming back for a mooch around Camden, where the party was to be held. We had a splendid evening, celebrating with Kath in Gilgamesh.
Disco diva Kath had a very appropriate dance floor cake!
Peter sported newly acquired tweed for the occasion. Sadly, he could not be persuaded to get rid of the newly acquired beard. I, meanwhile, was gutted that the dress I had wanted to wear wouldn't fasten without practically squeezing me to death and so I had to opt for choice number two from my party wardrobe. Never fear, I am back at Weight Watchers. I will get there.
It was lovely, as always to see my nephew and niece, Joe and Lily.
And there was the usual famous face there... how does he never age a day?
It was nice to be at a hotel just a walk away from the bash and the view from our room was lovely.
I enjoy a visit, but I really couldn't live in our capital city...far tooooo many people for me.
On Sunday we had some breakfast in a Camden diner before heading off to All Souls in central London, where we had the unexpected pleasure of hearing Rebecca Pippert as well as the main sermon. Then it was time for the snail train home, on which I discovered the power of twitter. I tweeted about the lack of toilet facilities, got a tweet back and the train stopped for a toilet break.
The journey was made a lot less painful by the new Bridget Jones book on my kindle.
Right, now I am really looking forward to a weekend at home!
