After a very relaxing week off at home, we went down to spend the weekend with our friends Dave and Davina. After nearly 20 years of reciprocal visits, some experiences have to be repeated and so on Saturday we relived an adventure to the Isle of Wight that we had had ten years ago, aged 5,6 and 3. This photo shows our girls in 2001 on the ferry from Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight. And here they are on the ferry ten years on:
Last time we had left our cars in Portsmouth and were disappointed to have missed the last bus to Alum Bay to see the Needles. So this time we took our cars. We rode the chair lifts down to the beach, which was quite an experience.
It was the perfect day and the scenery was stunning.
We decided to take a boat trip around the bay, out to the Needles. It was really good fun and not too choppy. Somehow we seem to have picked up the Two Ronnies on the way!
I love the fact that our children have known each other all their lives; I love their shared history and watching them grow together. Just a pity there was no Tom with us :(
The colours in the sandstone cliffs were amazing.
As were the Needles.
We mooched around the Needles Park for a while.
..and even fitted in a walk around a castle before sunset.
Such a perfect day, such a lovely weekend. I'm thankful for old friends.
