22 years and London

For her AS textiles project, Annabel has chosen the theme of Vintage Hollywood. So she wanted to go and see the exhibition of Hollywood portraits at the National Portrait Gallery, which closes today. This tied in nicely with our 22nd wedding anniversary on Friday and a special points offer at the hotel chain Peter uses and so off we went.
It hadn't occurred to me that you had to book tickets for special exhibitions and by the time I did realise and went to book online, they were all sold out. When I rang the gallery they said we would just have to turn up early on the day and see if there were any available. I drove down with Anni and her friend, Beth and made really good time, until my Satnav sent me round in circles for about an hour, ever between 1300-1700 yards of my destination! Anyway, we finally checked in and went for a lovely meal in a Belgian restaurant, believe it or not, followed by a stroll around London by night. I can never quite fathom how busy it is and how late everything goes on.
We actually had no problem getting tickets, which was a relief. The exhibition was amazing. There were photographs from as far back as the 1920's. It was interesting to see some pre-retouch versions too.
After this we mooched around the town and discovered the most bizarre thing....M&Ms world! I don't like sweets, but I did rather like their tribute to the Beatles' Abbey Road album cover.
We enjoyed strolling round London in the October sunshine. Peter tried on a hat that made him look as if he'd stepped out of The Blues Brothers.
The girls met Hello Kitty.....!
And we stumbled upon yet another brilliant vintage shop where Anni bought a Christmas sweater vest and Peter found a bargain tweed winter coat. Not bad for a whistle stop tour!
