Today my Momma Bear celebrates her 80th birthday. The photograph above was taken when she was 30, back in 1964. Yesterday we had a celebratory lunch at Cranage Hall for her special day. My sil, Kath arranged it all and did a rather splendid job.
I organized her birthday cake, made by the fabulous Joella's Bakehouse and Tea Room in town and I couldn't have been more thrilled with it. Amazingly, I had asked for lemon coloured (and flavoured) icing, not knowing that the room we had at Cranage was, in the words of Coldplay, all yellow too. (I do so love it when things match!)
Mum had chosen the menu; minestrone soup, a roast dinner and her favourite dessert of all time ~ a knickerbocker glory!
My brother, Rob and the family all came up for the occasion. It was quite a feat arranging for the grandchildren to be there from Edinburgh, Leeds, London and York.
Mum loved it all.
She loved having everybody around her. Rob had made a special playlist of all the songs he remembered her liking when we were children. It was so lovely having the room to ourselves and being able to sing our hearts out to golden oldies. Some of us remembered being sung to sleep with some of these songs. That may have been why all the grandchildren nodded off briefly at different points.
Mum was in her element, surrounded by all her grandchildren.
It didn't end there. She stayed over and had a birthday breakfast with Rob and Kath this morning and then had a lunch with some of her church friends, thanks to the lovely Maggie. Happy 80th birthday Mum xx
