2006 in review
Got this from Kristen's blog:
1. What did you do in 2006 that you had never done before? I went to Auschwitz, I lost someone I loved and oraganized two funerals.
2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions and will you make more for 2007? No to both. I hope I can resolve to change daily, not just at new year.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? People close to me are always giving birth…..
4. Did anyone close to you die? Yes, lots of people.
5. What countries did you visit? Poland and Ireland.
6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006? Nothing for myself, but I’d like Peter to be free from his back pain.
7. What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? October 11th, the day my Dad died. I'd never seen anyone die before and I'd never lost anyone I loved so much.
8.What was your biggest achievement of the year? ? Got me there.
9. What was your biggest struggle? Coming to terms with losing my Dad.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Nope.
11. What was the best thing you bought? My new car and Peter’s PDA and my tumble dryer.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration? I’ve experienced so much kindness I couldn’t begin to single anyone out.
13. Whose behaviour appalled you? The city council who sent a court summons for my Uncle for non payment of council tax when he’d been dead 8 months (and he'd paid it faithfully up until the day he died) and it arrived on the day of my Dad’s funeral. And my own for biting the head of the council clerk who had the misfortune of answering the phone on that occasion. He could probably still taste the toothpaste.
14. Where did most of your money go? Who knows? Bills, Camps, clothes for children who won’t stop growing at an alarming rate. Food for visitors…..
15.excited about this year? Yes. Not about anything in particular though.
16. What song will always remind you of 2006? I hear too many, I don’t know, maybe Crazy. Maybe "Some day the silver cord will break" because it did this year for my Dad.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you: much happier, nicer or richer? Not really.
18. What do you wish you had done more of? I wish I’d visited Dad in the hospital in Wythenshawe more.
19. What do you wish you had done less of? Work and complain.
20. Did you fall in love in 2006? Been in love for 20 years.
21. What was your favourite TV program? House and 24
22. What was the best book you read this year? The Time Traveller’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
23. What was your greatest musical discovery? Kate Rusby
24. What did you want and get? To get our garden done and thanks to Tom Bradburn, we did.
25. What was your favorite film of the year? Saw so many….erm…. Casino Royale maybe
26. What did you do on your birthday and how old did you turn? 41 and my honey bunny daughter and spesh sister in law made me a birthday cake. I spent the morning on a hammock sleeping off YP camp.
27. What one thing would have made your year more satisfying? I guess if my Dad had recovered, but that’s only a selfish wish because I know he’s far better off.
28. How would you describe your personal fashion statement this year? To wear more skirts.
29. What kept you sane? My faith, my pastor, my church, my lovely husband and my family and friends…..
30. What celebrity did you fancy the most? Peter Mellish and maybe Daniel Craig a teensy bit.
31. What political issue stirred you the most? The bill that the government were trying to push through which would have limited religious freedom. The stupid 6-month waiting list rule imposed on the NHS was pretty annoying too.
32. Who did you miss? MyDad.
33. Who were the best new people you met this year? My new boss, Jeannette.
33. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned this year. How much of an effect you can have on the people you meet in everyday situations and how important it is to treat those people kindly and have time for them. I learned that from my Dad.
