I banned my 11 year old from all forms of electronic games for a week because I was becoming convinced that his head was so full of rubbish that he was unable to hold necessary information in it. I came to this conclusion when my father received his THIRD phone call of the week "Grandad, I've forgotten my..(trainers/ lunch/ homework". The homework was the straw that broke the camel's back. After having exhausted all possibilities, I asked if it could possibly have been in his pocket? "Hold that thought" said the boy optimistically and hey presto!
What's my point? Well just two days into the ban, said 11 year-old says, entirely of his own volition, "I'm going to really limit my time on electronic things even after the ban is over". Why? Because it DOES make him think more clearly.
Therefore, computer games, PS2 games etc DO clutter the mind. I am pretty sure that my pupils would be a lot more focussed and less expecting of instant gratification and entertainment were these things to be removed from them. Too much tv of course has the same effect.
And do you know what really annoys me in all of this? I was the one who suggested buying him a playstation in the first place. I rue the day!
